  • The male one I vaguely knew from high school and was friends with his friends. A few years later I was working in a local shop which he visited every morning so we started chatting then just started hanging out. The female one I worked with her in a call centre where we were fairly friendly. It wasn't until two years later when she made a rare appearance on msn messenger that we bonded over having recent really crappy ex bf's. I ended up inviting her to my birthday night out and we became good friends from then on.
  • New preacher at our church. My parents invited them for supper shortly after they moved here. Their son was my age, would be going to my HS, and had played guitar. We started getting together, playing. He'd stopped for a while, but started back up because I did. He started picking out leads from records, and tried to do leads for my own songs. He asked a girl I was just about to ask out (he didn't know) and they became a couple. After HS, he went into the Coast Guard, and learned even more about lead guitar. I picked him up in New York once, and Virginia once, and brought him home. He got into a band, and asked me to come help run sound and lights. I took them over. When that band broke up, he joined another a while later, and I ran sound and lights for them, sometimes singing harmonies from the board. When that one broke up, he joined another, and I, again, ran sound and lights, singing harmonies from the board. They also added an acoustic set, and gave me a song to sing lead on (Black Water), and play on-stage (Hold My Hand). After a while, they broke up (or told me they did) "for a while", and when they got back together, the told him not to tell me. I never knew until one day when we were talking he told me. (They'd broken up, again.) They didn't think it "professional" to have someone singing off-stage. :-P Haven't seen him for a couple of years, since his father died. Another I met when we were in elementary through high-school together. He got married and had a bike accident, then divorced, and with the troubles he was having with recovery, we kinda fell apart. Afterward, though, we got back together at times. Haven't seen him for some time, but I still consider HIM a best friend. Another I met in college (the first was in the Coast Guard, sailing). We played DND together, and ran around together. I haven't SEEN him for over 20 years, but do through email, now and then. And, a girl I met (and fell in love with, even if she had a BF) in college. After they broke up, I tried to date her, and she was concerned our friendship would suffer, so ... After my GF and I broke up for good, I spent a lot of time at her place, and we went out a few times (nothing really happened), but we both consider each other "dear friends" from college. Then I met my ex wife, and she became my best friend for some time (15 years), and we're still friends. Then I met my wife, who is my current best friend, along with those above. Who said you can't have more than one best friend? ;-)
