  • Yes, I think it is. But I think there is a distinct difference between the perception of the importance of spelling in different parts of the world. For example, where I teach, in UK, there is very little emphasis on the importance of accurate spelling - as a result, spelling is declining. It is often very easy to spot answers and comments from young UK based ABers, as they are full of spelling errors, and frequently use txt spk. As I see it, this is merely because they do not believe spelling is important - it is not taught in schools, and it is not corrected in school!

  • I was when I learned it in school under the name of phonix. I've been trying to improve my spelling, and continue to do so, but am still haunted by the days of yore, amist the sound-a-thon hailing betwixt me ears ith.
