Well, assuming that your co-worker takes off his hat when entering the workplace, probably yours, since I assume you don't take off your pants while working. But his faux pas of criticizing your clothing is the biggest no-no of all. If someone doesn't like the clothes of someone else, one doesn't have to wear them. That's all - no comment is appropriate. The rare acceptable occasion would be if you were to ask, "Tell me honestly - do I look good in these jeans?"
