If there are conservative Democrats (Blue Dog Democrats), are there liberal/progressive Republicans?

There used to be. I doubt any are left since the new republican party is getting narrower and narrower in it's scope.

Are there ever! We just had one for President for 8 years. G.Bush is a good example of the liberal/progressive Republican. He over spent..beyond the requirement for prosecuting a difficult and expensive war. He bent over backwards to please the other side of the aisle on too many issues and received nothing but scorn in most cases. You be the judge if this Republican President, who was most definitely not a conservative, was successful. I think not on most issues.
