Help answer this question below.
Because they are afraid that they might actually be gay.
Great question. The answer is pretty ugly, but it is what I believe is behind the Republican agenda. The Republican party has attracted a large base of
Right-wing authoritarian followers (RWAFs).
RWAFs have personalities that are extremely compliant to their authoritarian leaders so long as those leaders tell them what they already want to hear. RWAFs are highly conventional, extremely ethnocentric, and quick to use aggression against "others" their leaders identify for vilification. They make the perfect posse members. The leader says stop the gays and they chant, "Get a rope!"
The Republican leadership's real objective is to stack the deck of society in favor of the rich. But selling that agenda to their base wouldn't work. So they sell wedge issues like "God, guns and gays" in order to weld together enough RWAFs to be able to serve the rich and corporatist masters.
Obviously repressed sexuality is a dangerous thing. They want to control everyone and everything, yet they can't even control themselves.
They would probably like to explore their feelings of homosexuality, but, they are too afraid. This could be the reason they act as if they're anti-gay. I've seen some of their spouses, and it's easy to understand their "pain." They know that misery loves company, so, they try to make sure everyone is just like them. It's not working for them
Because so many of them are closeted homosexuals.

complete lack of understanding, goes along with the mentallity of "well if the bible says it, its the truth" so they have an obsession of hating them
Because they are trying to appeal to the religious vote. Although 1 in 20 people are gay; in America 1 in 10 people are fairly anti gay because of religious roots. Its stupid that gays are so picked on by Christians when the Bible says bad things about everyone, even says women are not equal to men or exist for the pleasure of a man; and if Christians want to be sexually moral there are even parts of the Bible which indicate that prostitution is acceptable!
Is it obsession or is it fear of what they don't truly understand?
there is no beeter way to keep the focus from what your really doing than by making a none issue an issue and throwing a lot of some elses money at it, blinders for those that see and loud voices that drown out those that know ...

I suspect it's not homosexuality they are obsessed with, but with all things sexual. They have a decidedly Victorian feeling for reproduction, and there are rules that must be followed and obeyed. Some things must Never be discussed publicly. Deny everything.... Until the door is locked and the lights are out... and the money is in plain sight on the dresser... and turn the AC on so the kids don't hear the chains rattle.
Republicans are the party of the rich. The party's rich, corporate sponsors require a base of poorly paid workers in order to operate. Conservative, business-oriented Republicans fear that if there are more gay people, there'll be fewer couples having babies and filling the demand for more workers. This is why the party emphasizes "family values". What many homophobes don't realize is that gay people want kids too (and could have them if adoption agencies were more gay-friendly). So the supply of workers isn't going to dwindle as a result of gays. And soon there won't be a demand because machines will replace us, as the recent Denny's commercial illustrates in a wryly humorous way.
It's a control issue. They want to control as many apsects of a person's life as they can. Sexuality is a prime target. It's not just homosexuals that they obsessed over, it's also women of childbearing years. They treat the women like they're children and think they know best.
Because they're in denial. That, or they want to avoid talking about 'REAL' issues, so they use this who 'Gays are evil' bullshit to skim over other things...
As we've seen, many of them *are* homosexuals, or worse. By appearing to oppose it they're hoping their base won't notice.
Because most of them are homosexual
Your generalisation is not accurate, even though some republicans are very loud in the debate, many republicans are not so violently anti-gay.
Some, like the Log Cabin Republicans, are even pro-gay: http://www.logcabin.org/logcabin/home.html

Like anything, mostly its "political". Much the same way that democrats will use the environment or health care to try and rally a high democratic vote, republicans find the issues that will rally the broadest republican turn-out. Sexual orientation is really more of a religious "battle", but republicans, knowing that a high percentage of people aren't comfortable with it or religiously believe it to be counter to God's plan, have made it one of the major issues the party takes a stand on, much like abortion. Focusing a party's attention on things like water quality or waste disposal issues aren't going to energize a party nor bring votes to it's candidates.
Homosexuality seems to be an effective energizer right now, so you see the party hitting it quite regularly. Just like abortion in the 70's and 80's. Ten or twenty years from now both parties will find something new to obsess about to get those voters out to vote:)
Frankly it's because so many of them are gay.

It's a cover for all of their homosexual sex scandals.
they have to be obsessed with something...maybe gay power is their worst fear come true.
Because most of them, if not all, are, in fact, gay.
Their main goal in talking about homosexuality is to find a way to make it so that it never is talked about again.
I checked Google for Republican and Democrats Homosexual Topics and seems like more Democrats have more topics of Homosexuals or maybe possibly even. I personally have nothing against Homosexuals because my son was gay and I always felt it was their own business regarding there sexuality. But as far as Homosexual topics between the Republicans and Democrats, it seems to be a close draw too me.
I would say that it's the homo's that are more obsessed with their sexuality. I know that a lot of the hetero's are tired of getting their sexuality shoved in our faces. I don't care what you do behind closed doors, just leave it there!
Are they? I did not know that. I have noticed that the Demo party talks about it a lot,...almost constantly.
Because they're all closet gays. What do you think GOP stands for? Group Of Pedophiles, there!
I think they should rebrand themselves the AF (Anal Fisting) party. Two letters just like Xe (formerly Blackwater) and it allows them to express both their hidden desire and hate simultaneously.
were just trying to prove that its wrong, its a free country we are allowed to expresses our opinion....right?
And all the name calling by the so-called "caring party".Just more proof that you are not what you claim.
In truth it's because a great many of them are gay and or have had homosexual thoughts.
I almost hate to answer this question because the militant republicans here will go ape shit in a frenzy to down rate my answer - but I'm just calling the situation as I see it. I've never herd so much bigoted hate filled rhetoric about any subject as I have heard from so called Republicans about queers.
They remind me of the Nazi's talking about Jews - just a lot of bigoted bile with little if any foundation in reality.
Whatever...let the down rating begin....I'm ready for it.
It's all about the vote in politics. I'm sure there are many Democrats that are just as "obsessed" they are just too afraid to say anything negative about it. So they make it seem like they are ok with it. I know damn well there are a large quanity of straight men who are homophobic so the Democrats saying they are ALL ok with gays is a complete fabrication.
Homosexuals are obsessed with homosexuality. Republicans are merely attempting to preserve Family Values in the face of an ongoing political attack by Liberals USING homosexuals as a weapon. If you'll care to notice, that's where the main buzz on this topic is coming from.
I'm not. I think there are as many Republicans obsessed with denouncing homosexuality as there are Democrats obsessed with supporting it. The extremists are the ones shouting, most of us are more moderate. Please don't make blanket statements like that when they only apply to a small minority.
Everybody talks about it not just them, so what's your point?
They like controlling what goes on in American bedrooms.
Part of the reason is because quite a few Republicans are Evangelical Christians and there are several passages in the bible against homosexuality. I'm not verifying or justifying their motives. It could be due to their own insecurities and that many Republicans who are male try to project an image of masculinity. Of course that goes for other not just Republicans. Another possibility is that they are afraid of change and would rather have things digress back to what it used to be.
homo-sexual is, by definition, one who likes another like oneself. republican is, by definition, a narcissistic self-lover.
