The privates are paid around £15K a year (give or take a bit), which isn't bad when they are in barracks or out on exercise. I don't think it's anywhere near enough when we send them to war, and believe if their wages were 10 times more when we sent them to fight, our government would be a bit less flippant with their lives.

No. How much do you have to pay people to kill other people? That's really what it comes down to in the end. If abortion is murder then the military is an organised murder-machine, despite whatever 'defensive' qualities it is said to have.

The average soldier today is being deployed, most of them numerous times. They are not only laying their lives on the line, but they are living with death 24/7, at any second it could be them. The things they HAVE to do and see are unmentionable. ONE IN THREE of them are returning with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which is FOR LIFE...it is NOT CUREABLE! They don't ask for it, but YES, they really have no clue what they are TRULY walking into, most of them anyway... at the VERY least the Gov. that PROMISED to take care of them, should be doing so, not backloging VA care 225,000 at a time with 65,000 being told it will be 6 or more MONTHS before they can even be SEEN....many are dead by then (and NOT COUNTED AS CASUALTIES OF WAR, or anywhere on death lists)...they are JUST GONE...."Poof"

No, they're not. At no point in time should anyone who is willing to put their life on the line in defeince of their country be struggling to support themselves. The fact that an enlisted earns less then poverty sickens me. It's a disgrace.

No, because they volunteered and accepted the going rate when they enlisted! The only ones that should get more are those that are drafted against their will or stop lossed when they chose to leave!

Yes we should be paid more, im a serving member of the forces my self and find the pay disgusting for what were expected to do. Many civilian population forget were on call 24/7 our wages soon add up to less than te minium wadge per hour, too many troops are expected to take on more responsibilities for LESS pay, its high time payt was reveiwed for us all across the board, if we want to get down to it how can they justify football players earning thousands to basically kick a ball about the pitch, when all along our troops are putting our lives at risk for nothing, rubbish. SHAKALIN, you have a lot to say for your self! Obvisouly you think were not worthly of a wadge rise sand were a killing machine as you say, make no applogises sorry you are ignorant small minded person were not trained to kill as you say need i say anymore!!

If we had a smaller military or higher taxes, sure. But if not, where the hell would that money come from?

Only if they are stop losses or drafted! The ones in now are all volunteers! They wanted to be there, they placed themselves in harms way,they literally asked for it!They deserve a raise if they are forced to be present against their will!

NO. The housing allowance and dependents allowances should be raised, but not the basic pay.

Yes they should. Recently I served in iraq for 7 months as an E-4 8404 Navy corpsman (field medic) with over four years of experience. With out spending a dime i made approximately 17,000 dollars in those 7 months and that includes the extra money received for being in a combat zone. My platoon and i often worked from sun up till sun down. At times we would spend up to a month "outside the wire" with no showers, no bathrooms, and the ground for a bed in freezing cold conditions. Yes iraq is cold in the winter, cold enough to freeze our water bottles and give my marines chillblaines. We also participated in several firefights with insurgents. For putting up with so many hardships and working so many hours in what i consider a highly skilled job i think we should get payed more. And yes i said highly skilled you would be surprised at the amount of knowledge a marine rifleman possesses about his job.

well most people who join the military (especially army) where either too dumb to write an application or too lazy to flip burgers at mickey d's. so in my opinion they should not get a pay raise. why did ya'll really joined the military. and stop telling lies like 'i want to serve my country' or even more ridiolous ' i want to DEFEND my country'. ever wondered why there are so many immigrants/blacks in the military? right. because thats the only job they could find. nobody forced you to join. if you don't like it, which i can understand, then go back working for burger king. there is a reason why people call the military the 'club of losers'.
