es estan es, I think - I forget the rules on this one - I think I'm right - "es la una," "son las dos," etc. es The general rule - "Ser" is more permanent, "Estar" more temporary. Thus in sentence 2, the records are located (temporarily) there, but may be moved later. In the other sentences, something's makeup or status as the "center of spain" will not change.
