  • A masculine identifying lesbian; usually African American.
  • I am pretty sure that this term has been mispronounced or mistaken for the term "Bull Dyke." A dyke is a slang term for a lesbian, and when you say bull dyke you are referring to a masculine lesbian. I have never known it to mean one particular race or another, but it is commonly used for broad or thick lesbians. (ie: Strong like a bull.) The first time I heard this pronunciation was on a comedy skit by a popular drag queen/ comedian, Shirley Q. Liquor. She calls lesbians "LezBulldykas" but it sounds alot like bulldaggers.
  • I have know it be the slang word for a lesbian woman that lives like a man one who walks around with her midsection equipment on 24/7 she also refuses to be touched in any fashion form or way out side of kissing and hugging. In other words either a transgender or a transgender in the making. I have not known it in any other way.
  • I've heard of the term and I assume it means an extremely butch, very male appearing and behaving woman. One who wants to be even more stereotypically male than most guys would ever want to be. I'll have to disagree with YOLIES101. A lesbian who will make love to a woman, but will not allow herself to be sexually touched by her partner/lover is called STONE. They claim to get their sexual satisfaction from making love to the woman they are with, or by touching themselves (a bit rare) or by rubbing against their partner, (more common). Transgender is a totally different individual altogether not related to this term at all. Although a Transgendered person could adopt the behaviors of a Bulldagger, or become Stone. Wearing a strap-on is commonly known as "Packin" and some will wear them 24/7 while others only on a whim when they feel like it.
  • this is a term that was used in the 1920's to define very butch lesbian.Often African American.
  • Actually in the african-american straight community, they use it towards any lesbian, but more often members of the gay community use it towards the more masculine woman. I think, personally, it is a derogatory term.
  • Bull-dagger is a rather harsh term meant to describe a butch lesbian. I don't too much care for the word because of all the times i've heard it used, it had negative connontations and was used to degrade. And it just sounds bad. lol.
  • Oh dear dear dear. That sounds nasty no matter how you say it. Actually I was looking around for Dr. Doris or dear KKK when I read the question. (horrible isn't it?) It must be a new offshoot of "bulldyke" which is the meaning of the tougher of the pair of lesbians. The word just doesn't sound nice at all. By the wqay, hello from another absconder from Y!A !
  • I have no clue but if the lesbians on here say it's a nasty word that I'd believe them
  • WickyWowWow is wight -- I mean, RIGHT. Understand that the term has its roots in the South. I'm a 41 year old southerner who has heard it since as early as I can remember living. After consulting my 87 year old grandfather, he too says he's known that term all HIS life. It has NO racial connotation and it doesn't describe a particular KIND of lesbian (masculine, feminine, etc.) It strictly means -- at least in the south -- ANY lesbian woman. It may also refer to a bi-sexual woman (because in most of the South, bisexual=gay). Hope this educates.
  • I am an African American lesbian and I can tell you the term is not a term used strickly by the striaght Africa American community. The term Bulldagger is normaly refered to a butch woman who sleeps with men on the side. This is not to say that the women actually do it, it is more like saying "She know she wants a man"
  • Some form of thrusting instrument for purposes undisclosed.
  • A very masculine lesbian. Considered offensive by some. Better known as a dyke, butch, or a lesser known as a Diesel Dyke.
  • I am speaking as a high femme in the butch-femme community. We (as a sub-culture in GLBTQI land) claim the label for self-identity so that we may recognize each other. Not all masculine lesbians are bulldaggers, just as not all butch-looking women identify as being homosexual or gay. The word bulldagger is very fluid, depending on who is using it. I only date bulldaggers, none of whom identify as lesbians. Are they biologically female? For the most part yes, although I have dated a few who were intersexed. Can you be a bulldagger and a lesbian? Yes, just as you can be a bulldagger and not be a lesbian. The term is that fluid. Historically speaking, the term rose out of the African-American lesbian scene but it is now used in our community by specific butches of all races. Other butches us the term "bulldagger" as a gender, not just a signifier. Inside of the term bulldagger, there are also variations, but from the other comments to this question, I am not sure if you are ready for THAT conversation. My sub-culture (butch-femme) does not find it offensive at all. It is a term we use freely to describe ourselves to each other-- or to probe deeper into our identity politics. It is a word that we have re-claimed, just as many other marginalized groups have re-claimed terms that were once used only in a derogatory space.
  • sketchy Mess Jeoffrey, Dear. this shows that it pays not to be sure about anything. "Bulldagger" is not mispronounced. I have heard the term for at least 50 years. This from people who are highly articulate and enunciate superbly. Bulldyke is another term. Probably means the same thing. from: Miss SassyClassy
