  • I can't get too excited about this. Other breeds are maligned as well - Dobies, Pits, Germ. Shepherds and the Rottie. Unfortunately a lot of this is deserved because of puppy mills, poor training, poor breeding without regard to temperament, overall health and following breed guidelines. I own one of these breeds and at times I have been verbally attacked by some self righteous non informed idiot that would not know which end of a dog to feed. However, we also must agree that there are some really, really weird owners that have some of these breeds for non conventional reasons and not in any way related to love of the animal. My best advice is to get your Rottie out there in the public eye as a well behaved example of the breed. So if you are really sick about the breed reputation, then get out there and demonstrate the good benefits of owning a Rottie. You can't complain if you are not actively involved in educating people.
  • I think they got the reputation they did because of the people who trained them incorrectly, or abused, neglected them. Any animal has the potential to be vicious if they aren't socialized or are mistreated in some way. My baby is 1/2 rottweiler and she has the markings. Some people are afraid of her at first just by the way she looks and in no time they realize she's one of the sweetest dogs there is. She is that way because she's loved and well taken care of.
  • There are no bad dogs just bad people!
  • It is very undeserved! The rotten owners are the ones that cause the trouble! How have you been, Born?
  • I'm sick of breed related myths as well. I (obviously) own a pit bull, and in addition to attending as many town hall/state house meetings regarding proposed BSL as I can, I am always happy to talk to people about my dog as I walk her. I happen to live at Salisbury (MA) Beach, which is a very popular area right now. I have unintentionally become kind of a pit bull ambassador due to all of the interest in my dog as I walk her. I really feel that those of us who own these wrongfully maligned breeds should be bringing them out in public as much as possible, especially in places where there will be gatherings of people (as long as it's safe) so we can show the public how good owners can have good dogs regardless of breed.
  • My aunt & her neighbor bred their Rottweilers. Everyone was around them as puppies & they were fine. And as they got older, they became just terrible. Only she can be around them. Also she is not a bad owner, she is a great one. Those dogs have torn a kitten apart & another neighbors small dog that through the fence.
  • roti's can be the most placid dogs they just have the tendancy to be very family orrientated and protective of there pak or owners but with right training rottweilers can be used for any perpose my own roti is a perfect example of this.

  • yeah rotties and pit bulls its the way u raise them my rottie (132 pounds) cuddles and sits on ur lap and every1 is scared of her
  • I have to agree! I'm sick of it! I've known both Rottweilers and Pit Bulls that were OUTSTANDING Certified Therapy Dogs! They could not pass the Temperament Test or the CGC test if their temperaments and personalities were not stellar! These dogs give their HEARTS to people who are dying in hospice, to cancer patients, to cardio care patients, to those children who have been abused and may have emotional challenges dealing with others because of their abuse. I have seen BOTH BREEDS stand and do NOTHING, when punched by a teen that had lived a life of utter hell, being raped, beaten, burned by her father...she was, of course...acting out when she hit the dog hard. That dog did nothing but stand there and love her, as if it understood her spirit had been wounded far worse than she had hit him. He then crawled into her lap and licked her gently...this was a Pit Bull that had been rescued... The Rottweiler took on a 14 year old boy, who had been raped and abused..he kicked the dog before we could stop him...but the dog did nothing aggressive either, he yipped, and then lay down at the boy's feet. The teen dropped to his knees hugging the dog, crying his eyes out, because he realized he had done a wrong thing...just as wrong things had been done to him.... the dog instantly forgave him...teaching him to forgive himself... Neither was my dog, I had a Retriever mix that I worked during this time. BOTH DOGS... created a turning point for these young people to grow and heal and become more open minded to accepting that they had not deserved or caused the wrong doing to be done to them.... BOTH DOGS WERE HEROES!
  • nope, but i am sick of the taste of them
  • If this is reference to the dog, I'm with you -all the bad mothing should be directed towards the breeders and owners - mostly they are very nice dogs if some jerky humans don't get involved. If you are asking about the family of the Rottweilers who moved here from Iowa a couple of months ago I can't say enough bad about them - they are out of control, dirty and mouthy; and that is the parents. +5
  • I am sick of people docking and cropping them.
  • I am with you on that! I love all breeds of dogs! A dog should not be punished for its actions, for their actions are the results of the HUMAN surroundings they are in.
  • My rottie sasha, biggest softest thins on 4 legs. I take her for walks but she has to have a muzzle after cmplaints of how scary she looks :(. But kids have run up to her and gives her cuddles and she plays gentley with them 1 to the age 9 :) strange kids aswell. And sasha loves it. I cant belive they have a bad rep cause of owners :( mistakes.
  • I certainly am. We took care of a rotty for a while. Biggest sook ever. Sooo nice to be around. A lot of people just don't get that they're trained into the aggression.
  • I dont think they deserve it.my neighbors had one sweetest dog ever.my sisters boss had one very nice dog not aggresive at all.I blame poor breeding .any time a breed gets popular idiots trying too make money start breeding anything they can get there hands on.poor breeding has ruined several breeds including the cocker spaniel.
  • I'm not... I don't know any difference. They are illegal in the UK because of the number of fatal attacks they have made. While I am sure that proper training, and a proper home can deminish the chances of that kind of attack to the level of most other breeds - over here many rottweilers are seen as a symbol of violence by many of those who choose to illegally own them because of their potentially highly dangerous nature, and not many average people really know how to train any dog properly, let alone change what may be its underlying nature.
  • The chance of being killed by a dog are roughly one in 18 million, according to most sources, so you're approximately six times more likely to be killed by a bolt of lightning than a dog, (any dog). A child is more likely to die choking on a marble or a balloon, and an adult is more likely to die in a bedroom slipper related accident than from a dog attack. Kitchen utensils, water buckets and cows are more dangerous but the media loves reporting a dog attack because it's so rare and very much more dramatic and thus a better selling read. The media and the public they feed also want to wallow in dog attack news because, importantly, there is a very strong element of direct human responsibility in dog related fatalities and the accompanying fact that most could have been avoided gives the story a sense or tragedy which again makes for good readership numbers. This is why dog attacks get sensationalised and why people then get the impression there's more of it going on than there is.
