My friend tells me that the ipod touch reqires wi fi networks to go to itunes and shop. He also says that i don't have wi fi because wi fi is only on laptops. Is this true because i only have a computer.

you need wireless Internet yes. To access everything The touch can do, like go on AB check emails etc.
But just for music you can buy your music on your computer and just sync it to your Ipod

well really i just want to use the touch just for litsening to music, playing games, and watch movies. Do those need wireless internet?

Anything you can download on to the Ipod, doesn't need Internet.
You will be taking up alot of space with games and movies.

IPhone has different technology, you can receive your emails anywhere, and buy your applications, and ring tones anywhere...
I don't have an IPhone so I'm not too sure how they work exactly.
