    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, Anonymous. (What's this?)

not for not being religious. there are many religious people who will end up in hell, according to Jesus himself. "Many will say to me, Lord, Lord, didn't we do wonderful things in your name? and I will say I never knew you.
God is not interested in outward religion, but in the heart. He wants your love, and to have a relationship with you, not just hand you down a set of rules to follow. If that had been all he wanted, he would not have made the great sacrifice of sending his beloved son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for all the sins of the world.
That is Christian teaching on the subject.

Hell is not a choice of God, it is the choice of man who wants to reject God.

"For God so greatly loved the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life." (John 3:16)

No. God hates religion. He wants to have a personal relationship with you, not a religious one.

This question contains religious bias. If you are referring to the Christian God, then yes. According to Christianity, if you do not accept Jesus as your savior, you will not be saved. If you are referring to another religion's god, then you must research that religion.

You can be spiritual to the Christian God but not religious, but its not good for a Christian to not gather regularly with other belivers.

According to Christianity, if you deny the Holy Spirit and refuse to accept Jesus (Yeshua) as your Lord and Saviour - you are going to burn in Hell for all eternity.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Different religions believe if you do not belong to their faith that you are going to hell. It seems that many prominent religions have used this as an incentive of fear. In reality particular religions, which are many, condemn you to hell, not God. We are arrogant to word any type of scripture to suit the needs of that religion, and it has nothing to do with God.That is why many reject all religions, for fear is never an incentive to join any religion.

You know if God was even remotely intelligent he would use the atheist that just met God to convince other atheists but I remember something that Jesus said about preaching out in the open. I think this is what he said, "Pray in secret
When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

God wants us to live wholesome lives doing justice to Him (by acknowledging that all creation belongs to Him alone) His creation (by not seeking to destroy or harm it without justification) and among ourselves (by upholding good social structures and the rights of others). To this end He has, in His mercy, sent guidance to every human community that ever lived to warn them of the consequences, both in this life and in the hereafter, of doing injustice. The Holy Qur'an (HQ) tells us, according to Mr Pickthall's translation of the original text of HQ 35:24. "and there is not a nation but a warner hath passed among them." The choice then is ours. It would be clearly unfair to turn around and blame God for choices we have made. God asks us not to choose the path leading to our own condemnation in HQ 2: 195 “and be not cast by your own hands to ruin; and do good.” While HQ 4:147 asks a rhetorical question “What can Allah gain by your punishment, if ye are grateful and ye believe? Nay, it is Allah that recogniseth (all good), and knoweth all things.”
Btw Allah literally means “The God”, the universal one

Good question. Because religion is man-made but the bible is also man-written. So how do we know what is true? Isn't it our nature to question thing's and to try and seek out answers? We wouldn't be in this mess had it not been for that "snake" tempting Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. My question would be: Why do we suffer the fate of others? We was our choice in that? If God knew what was to come then why put his son through that when it could have all been avoided. Either way we are screwed. I have so many questions. I would like for God to present himself to let us know we are not alone. Not to test him but to show us he is real. I don't know.

  • by ...trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. on July 4th, 2007

...trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are trusting in religion, it will only condemn you to hell. Jesus did not come to condemn the world, but to save it(John 3:17). There is a hell and all who reject Jesus Christ as their Savior will go there because only His blood (not organized religion or self-righteousness) can wash our sins away and no sin can enter into heaven. Jesus is also the only One who rose from the dead for us as well. Sin is what condemns us to hell, but Jesus the living Christ is Who saves us if we put our faith in Him alone as our Savior. I hope this is helpful.

    -In the Master's service.
Thank you and God bless you!

define religion, however christianity is not a religion its developing a strong relationship with God and showing the rest of the world that what we have is different and we have a mindset for eternity not the temporary life.

God does not condemn you to hell. He says, "I come not to condemn the world, but that the world through me might be saved". Being religious is different than being a christian. The pharisees were religious. Being a christian is walking in love, and standing by God's word. John 3:16 is a great reference for this question.

I don't think you have to be fanatically religious, but just spiritual and believe in his existenance. How else would the mountains, sky, stars, sun , and moon, come into play. I think it's all about whats in your heart, being a good person,a nd having a conscience.

Being religious has nothing to do with going to hell or heaven for that matter. It's about believing on the name of Jesus Christ and becoming born-again.
