  • What I can tell you is this: I have a bracelet with the magnetic clasp on it. In the hotel a card key that was opening our room stopped working and I could not get into the room. The information on the card key was gone. Turned out this magnetic clasp wiped it out. LOL So, make a parallel and decide to yourself. I think my personal answer would be Yes, it CAN lead to a file loss.
  • It sure can, depending on how powerful the magnetic source is...
  • Yes. People who decorated their computers with magnets found that it could facilitate data loss. Here is another parallel: if you have an eel skin wallet, or money clip, kept in your pocket with credit cards, it will 'kill' the use of that strip bit on the credit card (the electronic read identifier for your card).
  • I can't believe everyone has said yes to this!! No it can not, Flash drives do not use magnetic media to store data, there is nothing magnetic at all in a flash drive so it can not be effected by normal magnets at all (in theory a strong enough magnet could disturb the electrons in the flash drive and destroy the data, but a magnet powerful enough to do that would also be pulling the iron right out from your blood cells!)
  • yes depending on the strength of the magnet
