I remember a while back there was a study done and the patterns of traffic jams were chaotic in nature. i.e. they exhibited great emergent complexity from simple initial conditions and laws. Much like weather. It was a very accurate model if I recall correctly... It was back in the 90s and I can't remember much more about it so don't quote me :) Or some idiot too busy texting someone to notice the lights have changed... Take your pick :)
