I have one cable jack in a room (comcast) can I use it for both a cable modem and tv with a splitter?

You, if I am recalling correctly, do this and have it work. However, it does seem to create problems with the internet, as COX (my provider) says they do not recommend doing it as it does create problems. I'd just call them and ask what they suggest doing in this situation.
