Why is it that the special effects in certain fifteen year old movies (for example T2 or Jurassic Park) still hold up better than new movies?

because in new movies its so blatently obvious its fake special effects that its stupid and gay. at least back then it looked a little realistic

Not exactly true. Take Jurassic Park. Many scenes didn't use CG, but rather actual robotic models. Nowadays CG is a lot cheaper than building robots.

I have been thinking that for a long time. It amazes me that the effects in something like Jurassic Park looks more realistic than the likes of The Hulk or I Am Legend, especially when these are big studio pictures with plenty of money thrown at them. The monsters in I Am Legend and The Hullk look like bad video game characters and don't blend in well with the live action at all, looking like Jessica Rabbit.

Sometimes progress/newer/fancier isn't always better. :)

It was probably because there was a better blend of practical vs. digital effects... whereas nowadays EVERYTHING is digital.
