  • As far as i can tell, yes. The only change in football that i can find is the value of a field goal.
  • G'day Cowtipper, Thank you for your question. Yes, it has. American football evolved from rugby which also has fields of 100 yards. • The football field was 110 yards long with no end zones until 1911. There were other changes in football through the years. Once field goals were worth more than a TD, for a few years TDS were worth 0, only giving one a chance at a kick for "goal". The current scoring system settled at the current points alloted in 1905. Once it was 3 downs to make 5 yeards, then 3 downs to make 10. Once forward passes were illegal, then at first an incomplete pass turned to ball over, later was a penalty. Until 1920, the extra point was from wherever the ball crossed the goal line, had to be from place kick a few yards from taht spot it crossed the goal line, or one had a free kick called a punt-out to reposition the ball for the kick. Canada still retains a smattering of the old rules, the 110 yard field for instance, the one point "rouge" as well plus other rules like 12 men aside and a 25 yard end zone, that evolved in Canada. Here are the scoring changes: FG TD PAT Safety 1883 5 2 4 1 1884-1896 5 4 2 2 1897-1903 5 5 1 2 1904-1908 4 5 1 2 1909-1911 3 5 1 2 1912-1957 3 6 1 2 1958-1987 3 6 1or2 2 1988- now 3 6 1or2 2 + 2 points for defensive return of failed PAT. 1 point for a safety if one occurs on PAT attempt. In 1922 PAT 1st allowed to be scored on run, pass or drop kick from 5 yard line, for 1 point. Before this the PAT was only allowed by placement. *In Philadelphia Interscholastic football, a kick-off that went through the goal posts was (still is?) a field goal worth 3 points! *N.F.L. Europe awards 4 points for FGs of 50 yards or more. *Arena Football awards 4 points for drop-kicked field goal and 2 points for drop-kicked PAT. *The N.W.F.A. awards 2 points for PAT by kick, only 1 point for PAT by run or pass. *The Maritime WFL awards 2 points for a convert by place kick, as did the NBWFL. •In 6-man football, a FG is 4 points and a kicked PAT is worth 2 points. °In the W.F.L., a TD was worth 7 points, the point after was worth 1 point, & had to be by run or pass.
  • American Football? No. In the beginnings 1869 - 1880s, field size varied considerably. They've been 100 yards from goalline to goalline since about 1911.
