Whether his name is on the mortgage or not, if you decide to get married or have kids, then I'm sure there is something there that says he is entitled to some of the money, but just cos he paid the downpayment out of his account whether or not you gave him the money, he can't claim any back unless you get married or have kids and become attached in some way

No he isnt going to get half not legally, but if he's paying half he should get half back if ye split.

It all depends on where you live. I know that here in ontario anything that you bring into the relationship has to be equally split once you seperate but anything that you owned before the relationship is yours also if you are together for more that 3 months here you are considered as common-law and there for entitled.

I never understand people in relationships - that state "if we break up" either you are happy and know now that this is a long term relationship - then I would go forward - if you are not sure - then it is not time to buy a house together. Why are you giving him the money for the downpayment? If it is your money and you are not "sure" - then it sounds kind of sleezy on the boyfriends part. Just my 2 cents.
