Haha I love that! Bush to a T! The only way to defend anything he wanted to do was to shout 'Human Rights' and the world would give a little support - The thing is though, I do genuinely suspect that there may have been an element of actually thinking he were helping (as an added bonus to chasing his own agenda of course).

i'm confused by the use of the words bush and serious in the same sentence. sort of like the use of army and intellegence together.

Entirely serious. Because, like many people, he is capable of believing two contradictory things at once. When "they" do it to "us" it is torture; when "we" do it to "them" it is a regrettably necessary interrogation technique, authorized by our right of self defence. Do as I say, not as I do,

I believe he was absolutely sincere. I also believe he actually believed as President it was within his power to define torture as he saw fit.
