  • Entertaining people and making money. It is pure showbiz, and has no more point than the latest Bond film or a musical.
  • simply because its entertainment for the TV audience. iam quite fond of WWE's RAW but not so much of smackdown..the performances the pro wrestlers give, be it body slams on table tops, or a bloody duel in a cage match or my fave, a royal rumble..its worthy entertainment for all ages..
  • I'm not the biggest wrestling fan ever (I'm only 70kg) but when I was a lad oh so many years ago, I used to collect WWF wrestling cards, like half of my school. I never watched the events because A) I didn't have sky then and B) it didn't really interest me, but I collected the cards anyway because it was the latest craze at the time (just as Pokemon and Pogs followed). I do know that it is no longer WWF, I believe it is now called WWE or something, perhaps because the World Wildlife Fund got sick of people turning up to its charity functions in spandex shorts and leather boots. As to the point, I'm guessing it's to do with people enjoying watching violence on TV, but able to say it's only acting so it's OK for my 4 year old son to watch as well.
  • ENTERTAINMENT. So it shouldnt really be in the sports section although it requires fit athletes, so maybe it can be here. Its WWE now. They got in trouble with the World Wildlife Fund. The big fights are fixed, but that is not the point. People go to shout at the baddies and cheer on the goodies. No real sport would allow the referee to be hit. For players to pick up chairs and to use them to hit their opponents. No real sport would allow the manager to jump into the ring and hit an opponent or to be able to send other members of his entourage into the ring in a 1 on 1 fight. It may be fixed but they are still incredibly fit atheletes. It is still very dangerous, with several deaths occuring in recent years in the ring. Owen Hart... To quote Bret Hart after he fought his brother-in-law The British Bulldog, it is incredibly knackering putting on a show like that. Not the exact words but the right sentiment. I would love to know what would happen if they fought for real under proper rules. I loved watching British wrestling but it was just as fixed. I was a great fan of Big Daddy as a kid, but his family controlled wrestling at that time and it too was all for show - just on a smaller scale. Not sure if all the fights were fixed though. If you cant bet on the outcome in as sports shop - its a big clue that the outcome is already known!
