never read any but have some feeders at my cabin they actually do attract hummingbirds don't think they're bad since the birds are only up here in the summer so they don't depend year round on them

I had in the past, but everything I've read in the last few years have spoken about all the positives, especially the newer feeders like the HumZinger which is so easy to clean and making the sugar water at home. Hummingbirds actually don't feed on the nectar but they use it to fuel themselves to hunt their real prey, bugs. So they have found that actually a higher concentration of sugar water is better than a weaker one. And never use soap to clean the feeders as that is very bad for them.

We feed them all summer. I think I did read something years ago but don't believe everything I read.

The only thing I have heard is the food colouring some people put in the water is harmful to them.

in our area we are encouraged to take them down at the beginning of sept. otherwise false food makes hummers stay to long then they freeze before they make the flight south in the winter. you always use real sugar they need the energy.
