i thought the same thing until i was in a situation where i had to apply for my sons survivor benefits from his dad passing, i was informed that he would be eligiable up until 18 or 19 if he was a full time high school student. my sons father passed 4 months before he turned 18, so in order for him to get his dads ssi we had to prolong his graduation until he was at least 18 and 10months, but he goes to community college at night to make up for being in high school late
