i wouldn't be surprised. governments do some weird stuff, like back during the cold war ours did research into psychic "Remote viewing" as a spy option. and i hear the Nazi's experimented with the occult.

I believe that most governments have some special group doing research. Whether or not they are in special areas or not is unknown.
