Having read a number of biographies of both Woodrow and Edith Boling Galt Wilson, her SOLE motive was to protect the President from the strains of dealing with Congress. She was afraid that the business of politics would finish killing him. It is true that she read documents for/to him, and helped guide his hand in signing those he approved. She apparently acted as would any devoted wife would to protect her husband's very fragile health.
