Yes, for the most part. But there are certain situations where it is not acceptable.

Only in buried treasure.

It depends on the situation and where and when your the finder. If you know who the loser is and your able to let the loser know what he or she lost then no i dont believe in it but if your the finder and unable to determine who the loser was then yes i believe in it.

I agree with Takn. It depends a lot on the situation. What IT is that has been found. If I know who IT belongs to, or if it would be fairly easy to track down the owner... A $20 that I find on the ground and I DID NOT see it fall from anyone's purse, pocket, wallet, hand, I'd probably keep that, and feel no guilt. A $20 I SEE fall from someone...I have to say something...that might be all the cash that person has for the next week...I can't just keep it! I find an expensive ring, or watch at the beach! I sit for the rest of my day there, or swim, but keep an eye on "my space" and never once see anyone looking for anything in the area. Maybe I run a found...please describe IT and location lost ad. No one claims...I keep. But if I see someone LOOKING through the sand nearby, maybe even upset or crying...I can't keep that..I have to ask if they lost something, and please describe it. If I had kept all the "lost dogs" I've found...I'd have way too many dogs, and there would be some sad people missing their dogs, and pups missing THEIR people. I can't take joy from someone else's loss, if I can return IT.

Yes, as long as I know for a fact it doesn't belong to somebody else.
-
yes, ive always beleived in this saying...if iam the primary person who finds an item belonging to an individual who has lost or misplaced it, too bad ha-ha! unless the item is of sentimental value, i would give it back..and quite possibly, cautiously ask "is there a reward?" i have come across several pairs of clean socks and a dress shirt at the laundry once
-
yes i do. if it is of sentimental value then i will tracak down the person to give it back.

It really depends on what the finder finds that he plans to keep. but for the most part I think the loser is more entitled to what was found.
-
It it's something that would be almost responsible to return to the rightful owner, then the finder should get to keep it. Cash for instance can't really be returned.

Finders Keepers - intersting concept. In my home State, any person finding anything of value (if it is good enough to pick up, it will have a value) must hand it in to the local police who will do their reports and hold the property for about 3 months. If the owner cannot be located, the finder is given the option of claiming the property at which time, full and complete ownership of the property legally transfers to the finder. The original owner no longer has any legal right to that property. A moral right? That's your problem. Anything else is stealing.

The law in most states says that the finder has rights to the property over all others, except the owner. So it doesn't matter what I believe in.
