  • It's always safer to pick on pacifists. They "turn the other cheek" for the most part
  • It's just a matter of the size of the target -- you're living in a culture that is predominantly Christian, so it's easier to "connect" with those references. If you lived in China, it would be different.
  • You look around the web and see some stuff that Christians preach and take Fox news as realistic information and believe in the literal truth of the garden of Eden story and also youth groups getting into people's faces about "being saved"etc.- I guess it does take some form of backlash for normal people to keep a grip on their sanity.
  • Cause Christians don't cut your head off, or fly plane loads of innocent folks into towers, or get all Medieval on you like the Muslims do when they get picked on.
  • It could just mean something as simple as people are generally more familiar with Christianity.
  • If you're talking about comedians, and not just malicious run-of-the-mill jerks, I think the answer is twofold. First of all, jokes about Buddhism (for example) DO exist. But they have a very limited audience; people who know (or think they know) Buddhism. Like the one about the Buddhist monk who goes to New York and asks the hotdog vendor to "Make me one with everything." Jewish humorists are notorious for making jokes about their culture and religion. I remember when growing up how some of my friends were aghast at some of the pointed, self-deprecating humor that Catholics engaged in. Anyway, people tend to make jokes about what they know and Christianity is the predominant faith in the West. But there's another issue, and that is that fundamentalists, with their (generally speaking) lack of humor make it SO easy for these types of "humor." I think it's not Christianity that's being made fun of. I think it's certain types of people who call themselves Christian. Just my opinion.
  • We're in predominately Christian countries in the North and South Americas. Many of the people who first came here from Europe to settle had issues with religious freedoms (or lack thereof), which became an important factor in the founding of countries in the New World. The fact that it's already a predominately Christian environment; the added fact that religious tolerance tends to be higher in general here as a result of our histories; and the fact that compared to all the other religions world wide Christianity probably has far more sects and divisions than any other, means that Christianity is a rich target for people to make jokes about and to deliberately offend others about. And Christianity, being the largest religious group here, tends to look like the "big bully" compared to all the other smaller organizations.
  • For the most part = fine responses. For some perspective, look up, read, & 'comprehend': "6 Blind Men Of Hindustan" (especially the last para.).
  • You think you are offended? You forget us Muslims. We are offended everywhere. Salaam
