Why do some Muslims have beards but no moustache?

    I read this about the beard/no mustache...

    (5) "Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) ordered us to trim the moustache closely and spare the beard" says Ibn Umar.

    Having a beard but no mustache is Sunnah, meaning that is the way the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) chose to have his beard. Therefore, Muslims follow the same practice to be closer to him.

    What NutritionMom said and also that, its more of a cultural thing. Mostly in afghanistan, u will hardly ever see a moustache. But in Iraq, you hardly ever see a beard.. they are mostly mustaches. In pakistan, its ugly to rock a beard without a mustache, so they go together unless its just a mustache. I personally prefer & currently support a chinstrap with a goatee. But its not a goatee cuz, its a chinstrap. Nice right?

    Muslims have beard but no moustache, as it is considered Haram, esp. when you drink water your moustache could have dirt or germs so its does not go into your body. I am not a muslim if i am wrong then i am sorry.

    It is a hadeeth, i.e. tradition of the Prophet Muhammed (Sunnah) as opposed to something from the Qur'an.
    Muslims are encouraged to follow the traditions of the Prophet... live by his example.

    course muslims have moustaches too ,my partner is asian/muslim and has both (only a close one thank god)but other muslim men i know also have both .

    it is only a sunna issue, i have never seen a shia with a beard and no moustache


    and to why they do so is they blv that doing so makes them be closer to the prophet Mohammed just like wearing short "kandura" (the traditional arabian dress for men)

    LOGICAL PART:
    every creature in this world has some features of its own with which it is defined
    for example,if you have to describe a rose,you would think about its colour,odour,softness of its petals and fragrance
    and thorns.
    now a rose which has all the characteristics mentioned above but lacks one..say fragrance,we call it deficit.we do not deny
    its being a rose but its not full
    same applies for any kind of species.likewise female and male species of the creatures are defined by certain pyschological,
    physical traits.for example,the lion has a beard and cant feed its cubs like a lioness does...likewise a she-lion has no
    beard and vice versa.a cock has a
    crown on its head,the hen does not but can lay eggs.a deer has horns its counterpart hasnot anh has some features of its
    own.a peacock has crown feathers at its tail, a pea hen does not.there are lot many examples like these.now when one
    shaves the lion or cuts the crown of the cock or cut the horns of the deer they still are males but aren't they lacking
    something.now when you have to present a human being as a model to an alien
    who has never seen any, you would not present a human who is amputated or is deficit of what normal humans have because
    he doesnot serve a model to represent a normal human
    even we do not rule him out to be a human being.this is the logical part
    RELIGIOUS PART:
    once angels have asked allah that how you have bestowed beauty on human beings
    then god replied that he has bestowed beauty on women with their long hairs and men with their beards
    and it is the tradition o prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) we follow cause he is the model for humanity in leading
    their lives
    HISTORICAL PART:
    beards were not a subject of discussion at all in good olden times because men always had beards from the beginning of
    the world without much debate.the prophets stories' explains this away.even jesus(peace be upon him) had a beard and we
    try to ignore this.
    every person and their leaders used to have beards in all the civilations of the world.it is the alexander who has started
    this fashion in his army that his army should b clean shaven because he himself had an abnormality at his chin and did not
    get a beard
    and he did it because his beard is not growing....
    and THE SAME BEARD LOOKS ALIEN TO US
    MEN PLEASE GROW BEARDS AND USE YOUR WIT IN DOING THINGS
    and importantly beard is associated with wisdom...
