What actually would happen if I ate some silica gel (the stuff that comes in the little packets usually packaged with electronic equipment) ? What's so bad about it?

    It will severely dehydrate you, this is a major ingredient in rat and cockroach poison. It is also used to keep the humidity down in ammo cans and cases.

    It is unlikely that you would notice any reaction at all if you were to eat Silica Gel. The reason it is marked "Do Not Eat" is because it is not food and can pose a choking hazard. It is an inert, non-toxic material. You would have to eat a lot in order for you to become dehydrated.
