  • Interesting question. It's not up to me to tell a woman what to do with her body. That said, I would hope she wouldn't do it.
  • No... not at eight and a half months.
  • That is stupid 8.5 months is NOT a foetus it is a baby. It is a baby that can be adopted they would have to murder it,, if a child breaths independent of its mother it is murder. My son was born before 7 months and he survived to be a healthy happy intelligent child
  • I would be against it. I would consider it wrong. If it were up to me, I wouldn't allow it by law - but if I also wouldn't punish her for doing it.
  • NO way, that child could easily live outside the womb at that age.
  • No, I think at some point (exactly where is arguable), the law should step in to protect the unborn baby. That point is not the moment of conception, and it's certainly not 15 days before birth. There is a point in each case where the woman's right to choose and concerns for her health, when balanced against the maturity and viability of the fetus, stop tipping the scale in favor of choice ethically.
  • I would go with it except for one thing..... SHE HAD F-ING 8.5 MONTHS TO FIND OUT SHE WAS PREGNANT.....HOLY S-T LADY! YOU HAD A CHANCE!
  • 8.5months. That's a bit late in development. By then the foetus has developed neurons, can probably feel pain, emotions, simplistic thinking etc and it would be a bit cruel to terminate it. Unless there's a complication indicating that the mother would die or birth or some crises financal or otherwise that would cause the child to have a poverish or bad life if it was born then the area gets a bit grey. Depends on the individual situation but if it's 8.5months old and healthy I'd tend to side with letting it live. tehn again you could consider overpopulation, the fact that humans kill animals on a regular basis even though their nuerons can be more developed that a foetuses... and the issue that a woman should have the right to do what she likes with her body. In general, I'd say give it a chance in life. I'd also like to mention that I get annoyed by people who make quick judgements on important issues without thinking it all the way through.
  • Of course not. The baby can live out of the womb at that stage.
  • Just asking ...where on earth would that be an available option? I am unaware of any such legal option in the Western world.
  • that would definitely be stupid. if she's had it that long why not just give birth anyway? 8.5 months is really far along. i was born about 2 weeks shy of 7 months so 8.5 will allow the baby to sustain
  • Me. Seriously, there's a lot of people already. What's this hang-up over making sure, under no circumstances, will anyone die except under state mandate?
  • No one abort at such a late stage.
  • I am not sure where this is allowed but it is not allowed here in the states that I am aware of. That is considered full-term. I think it is heinous and sick to even contemplate doing such a thing.
  • I forget the name of the abortion, but there is one -oh I remember partial birth abortion. They allow the baby to be half delivered - then they open up the skull and suck the brains out killing the baby. It is a horrible situation and I can't even think of the reason why - I am sorry - but it's the truth.
  • Count me waaaay out! NO! I would not abort.
  • The nearly newborn fetus seems less real before being born. I could not electively abort. I am not going to necessarily make charges about the right and wrong of abortion. I don't get to be a moral authority for other people deciding whether the life inside them should continue. I do feel vehemently against it at such a late stage, though. That fetus has developed into a baby, and all the hazy middle ground has evaporated into life and possibility. I know that I've named bamboo trees and fish, to name a few. I know that, at two months - at two weeks - the life inside of me would be stirring with possibility. Peter, Joseph, Jack, John, Caleb, Dante. That's my healthy fetus. My growing boy. He'll go to college one day. He'll make me proud. He'll have my eyes. It's 8.5 months. His first picture is on my fridge. My belly is full of this new life. He is me now. Maybe people should always be allowed to choose. I don't know what to think there. I just know that 8.5 MONTHS is a tiny fraction away from a baby's first birthday. I don't know what I "allow" since I have no authority, but I know I'd always wonder if Jack was the one who could have changed the world.
  • Absolutely not! :)
  • I'm pro choice, but that is just wrong! very very wrong!
  • no way, not I
  • I don't believe in abortion period at any point in time. I believe life starts at conception and abortion is the murder of an unborn human being.
  • That is the single most retarded question I've come across in al long time. Just as much as someone should be allowed to electively abort you for asking it.
  • POLL: How many of you know how to spell "foetus" correctly?
  • I am not sure you could call it an abortion since at 8.5 months the foetus is almost ready for birth and could survive if removed. You would have to get your head around the fact that you would be killing a pre-born, not a foetus.
  • I have no way of having any opinion because I am not a woman. As I would not want any woman making choices on my reproductive ability or organs. Honestly I do not really know. That's almost a person, but I said almost. When is an unborn child a person. I don't know therefore I cannot say. Until this is established through science and not any other method I have no real opinion. I know I feel abortion is wrong, that is a feeling based on emotion not reality. The reality is that each person has their own feelings and situations. One rule cannot cover them all.
  • ALLOW? By law, I have no say what a woman does in terms of abortion in general. But to ME, there is no difference WHEN an elective abortion takes place: I am opposed to it.
  • do i think its the best choice? No. but i AM pro choice. I believe in choices, whether the woman wants to keep the fetus to term, or not. i am NOT pro abortion....that is a misconception about many pro choice ppl...i just believe in a womans right to chose and just because i believe that does not mean i would have one myself. And as a pro choice person, I have to say that if i believe in choices, I must also believe that one person's chocie is not better than another { ie thinking that a woman who aborts at 3 months is better than one who aborts at 8.5}. I live in Canada and good luck finding a doc who will do it beyond 3 without a reasonable medical concern. But there is no punishable offense for abortion a fetus in its 8th month or, the day before its born. If you want to refer to this, look up R v Drummond. Thanks.
  • disgusting!
  • Can babies actually be aborted that late? O_o Well I wouldn't do it, I don't see why I would carry a baby for that long if I wanted to abort it.
  • I sure don't and I find it scary that anyone ever would allow such an atrocity
  • No way!! It's a baby, how could you kill your own child, a part of you?? Especially when it's been around that long!
  • Great question. As someone who is pro choice I have asked myself this. Should I be pro choice no matter what age the unborn? If not am I then being hypocritical? I think by 8.5 months any woman should well and truly know if she wanted the baby. How many women take that long? Since the unborn would be able to survive outside the womb without the need of the mother then I see it as a viable human being and as such I would not be inclined to think it should be allowed. As the laws in this country stand, you are given a reasonable amount of time to decide if you wish to terminate the pregnancy.
  • That far along in the pregnancy...it isn't an abortion...it is an inducement...and a live birth.
  • I'm pro choice, but I have to say. Holy fucking shit no. I'd punch a woman in the face if she tried it. It's beyond sick. If you don't want it at that point, give it to someone who does.
  • Any doctor who would do an abortion at that stage in such circumstance should hang their head in shame.
  • no way, that is sick!
  • there are so many people who long to have a baby and cant so, i would say if she could bring herself to give birth, giving the baby to a couple who do really want it and have all the love in the world to give to the baby, why couldn't she give the baby away? she could ask for a c-section so she wouldn't have to go through the ordeal of giving birth.
  • Decent people would disagree with such a barbaric question.
  • No. At that point you have a child that could be birthed and adopted.
  • No way!
  • No, I don't think it should be legal once a fetus is viable outside the womb. At that point, the baby would easily survive after being removed from the uterus. It doesn't need to use the mother's body for survival anymore, so why would you kill the baby after taking it from the womb? It doesn't make sense.
  • I don't think she should legally be able to abort. It just seems wrong, like leaving your child out to die.
  • no absolutely not. Babies can be born at 7 months and still live. At 8 1/2 months. Thankfully there is a law against that
  • I am pro-choice, but by 8.5 months the baby can survive outside the womb, it would be crazy to abort a pregnancy that far along. I don't think its even possible, she would have to deliver and in that case she should put the child up for adoption for a couple to adopt.
  • No. That's just so wrong.
  • I am prochoice and believe in abortion when a fetus isn't viable or able to live outside of the womb on it's own. At 8.5 months that would be a baby and the woman would have to deliver a live baby. Also, I don't believe abortion is legal at that stage of pregnancy.
  • no i do not. the child is almost born and actually looks like something. i belive that at 8.5 months you have had plenty enough time to decide to abort or not.
  • No way, at 8.5 months, the baby would be able to survive if delivered. In the womb, this baby would be alive and conscious and it would be murdering a baby. If the woman does not want the baby, she should give the baby up for adoption and give him/her a chance at life.
  • It doesn't matter what the age is, it's the same principle - either the unborn have rights or they don't. If you can abort at 8 weeks, you should be able to abort at 36 weeks.
  • There's no question that it is killing a viable human life, the bigger question is how much discretion we should have over killing viable humans. Many would like to have that control over other people but few like others having that control over them.
  • nobody should be allowed to murder a living human being.
  • Absolutely not. I only believe that someone should be able to abort if they are raped or if there is no way the mother would be able to survive while in the early stages of pregnancy (which means right after they found out they were pregnant, not 8.5 months). At 8.5 months, you could deliver the baby. At this stage, the fetus is just like a child. It can hear, see, and feel. I mean it would be like killing your child just before they turned a certain age (i.e.- 3 years old, just because they are getting to be a handful).
  • I'm honest, and sometimes thats seen as bad around here. If that child had some physical condition that would render it "unhealthy," there's no need to abort it. At that stage of the game, the kid is basically ready to come out into the world. For me, if I knew I was delivering an unhealthy child; I wouldn't want to. EX:Severe brain damage, but they should be able to catch things early before 8.5 months.
  • Her body, her choice.
  • There should be a "point of no return statute." 8.5 months....that's like getting a canteloupe-sized cyst removed. If she didn't abort it by 6 months, she should be made to have it and give it up for adoption. Why destroy a perfectly good baby when you can give it away? That's like burning a 20.00 bill. It's just common sense. It's one thing to get a mole removed and another to have a limb removed.
  • If she CHOSE to have sex, then she should have to live with the consequences of her actions. She should not be able to kill another human just because she wanted a 1 night stand, or because it doesn't fit in with her lifestyle because of her career. ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!!
  • It would depend entirely on the circumstances. Normally, though, I would say that something that is a fortnight away from being born is no longer a foetus.
  • Heck no..what kind of person would carry a baby that long then abort it..
  • No that seems a little or a lot late as the baby can easily survive outside of the womb when it's 2 weeks early.
  • Abortion rights supporters say that fetuses' are parasites and tumors. Why would it be wrong to kill a parasite or tumor?
