Help answer this question below.

Is this discrimination? i am a legal u.s. citizen. i want a credit card or home loan from Bank of America. i do not have a social sec. number. i am denied, but an illegal immigrant is given a card without a soc. security number. whats wrong here?

    first how can you be a legal us citizen and not have a social security card. instead of worrying aboutthe next person find out what is wrong with your situation.

    What's wrong here is that you went to Bank of America.

    Odds are that you were denied because Bank of America couldn't pull a credit report on you. Bank of America has been issuing credit cards to illegal aliens, but only after they've had a banking relationship (checking account) for at least 3 months. On top of that, from my understanding, they must pay a deposit and a high interest rate.

    I'd file for a SSN if I were you and work on building a credit report. You may need to start with a secured credit card or a department store (Best Buy, Walmart, Macy's, etc) or gas credit card.

    Lending guidelines have become much more stringent, especially because of this "subprime meltdown".

    Another option would be to meet with lenders who have manual underwriters and showing them your financial statements and such.

    How do you know that an illegal immigrant with no social security number was cleared for a bank loan?
