No Way, since people are blaming an inantimate object for the actions of the person, if it's not guns, it's bow's and arrows, if it's not bow's and arrows, it's spears, if it's not spears, it's the sword, if it's not swords it's knives, if it's not knives, it's sticks, if it's not sticks it's rocks . don't you read history apes are apes and pond scum is pond scum .. intent and practice are two different things stop defending criminals for their actions by blaming inantimate objects as being possessed by demons beside bullets and funerals are cheaper than prisons .. ~Nemo~

Source for the stats please? ATF has requested numerous times the Mexican government provide the serial numbers for these weapons yet they refuse, funny that since with the serial numbers they could trace them somewhat, I suspect the real reason is they know that what will be found is the opposite, that the weapons in question come across their southern border or from their own corrupt military and police. To boot, the 'assault weapons' they speak of are not the wan semi-auto imitations we are allowed here, these are the real deal full-auto military issue, the cartels are not getting their weapons here. As for the ban itself, its a total farce to begin with, it banned nothing but cosmetic features. Essentially military looking rifles were targetted, if it had a bayonet lug, folding or collapsible stock, or flash hider it was targetted. Guess what? Delete those features and the weapon is still functionally the same. I'm not going to get into further detail as I already went over it exhaustively here: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1392981 The 'assault weapons' ban is a boogieman manufactured by the mainstream media to spook hoplophobes. I am not in favor of reinstating it because it will have no effect whatsoever, its just another example of a politician pretending to 'do something' while he does nothing whatsoever.

..I would like the Mexican prez to stop the illegal hordes and the coyotes that bring them, but that doesn't seem important. ............the right to bear arms.....................

Where did you get that 90% figure? I don't believe it. Just like I don't believe U.S. druggies are demanding that Mexico continue to provide them drugs. Mexico is corrupt and in shambles politically and economically. They need to clean their own house. The real answer is to secure the borders...really.

Didn't you know murder is now classified as free enterprise? What will all these poor arms manufacturers do when they can't arm insurrections and drug cartels around the world?

Tougher restrictions on assault weapons, yes. Banning them again, no.
