I am sure it happens, but it is an unwise thing to do. Dosages exist for a reason. You can do damage to your organs and brain by abusing presciption medicines, just as you can by illicit drug use.

I think it's extremely stupid of the teens, and they shouldn't be risking their health. or possibly their life. on the other hand it might be an improvement from getting high off illegal drugs...

DXM (Dextromethorphan) doesn't make you high; it's a dissociative, technically an anesthetic, which makes you "trip". This is the active ingredient in OTC cough medecines which are abused. It is thought that abuse of this substance may cause a brain disorder called Olney's lesions, one which results in cognitive impairment, but the jury is still out on that. It can be dangerous, as can other dissociative drugs, the best known being PCP. As far as using drugs in a manner other than prescribed, I've certainly had experience with it (too much, really), and it isn't something I could ever recommend. However, experimentation with drugs is a part of most teenagers lives (if you rightly consider alcohol and nicotine in that statement), and my opinion is that it is better to have known quantities as opposed to unknown quantities. What I mean by that is that pharmaceutical drugs don't contain unsafe contaminants, and have known strengths that can be managed. I think if someone is going to use drugs for recreational purposes, it is better (healthwise) to use the pharmaceutical sort.

I have tried it. All it had done for me was make me extremely tired. (Nyquil itself) But when I would wake up my stomach would hurt and have slight coordination loss for about 10-20 mins. I did it once my first and last time.
