  • People are ignorant and full of fear, being gay does not make one a paedophile, nor does it effect ones ability to do these jobs.
  • Great question Watson. The way I think about it is, why would I want my son in a situation waiting to happen, like having a gay man as his homeroom teacher? I have one gay friend, and have NOTHING against homosexuality. BUT! After consulting with my gay buddy, he even agreed that gays should not be teachers. I am only speaking of teachers, because I have no idea how the healthcare portion works... Great question! +3
  • There is a confusion, sometimes wilful, in prejudiced people's minds, between gay men and paedophiles. Obviously, paedophiles should be allowed into positions involving the care of children. And these idiot, quite illogically, confuse two very different variations from their own "norm".
  • Because it presents the problem of people's own cultural values that they wish to teach their children. Health care you as an indivudual have a right to choose who cares for you, if you have no say that in itself can effect your wellbeing.+4
  • I guess they feel that gay men and lesbians are sexually irresponsible and less trustworthy than heterosexuals, particularly with children. In fact, it is well documented that the overwhelming majority of those who molest children are heterosexual men.
  • The same people that don't want homosexuals to hold certain positions can be found with a transvestite in the parking lot during the night so I don't know why...
  • Why do some gay people believe that the whole world hates them? Why do some gay people argue about things that law which they fought and won in court should be issues to other people? Why do some gay people discriminate against heterosexuals? I guess "statementbag" is needed. Does it exist?
  • I always thought it had something to do with the fact that homosexuality and bisexuality are usually also associated with an amount of sexual liberty that causes unease in the more prudish of us. They don't want that freedom to rub off on 'people', which is such a useful word for disassociating oneself from the web of causality that binds them oneself to everyone around him/her. Teacher and health care provider are positions where a person has a large amount of control over another person, one physically, the other mentally. It could also be intimidating to have someone with a personality trait one finds discomforting have that much power over oneself. </ramble>
  • If children were being raised and educated by parents first, and the state second, it wouldn't be such an issue.
  • It's just bigotry. I'm genderqueer myself (asexual), and I have to put up with the same sort of prejudice right here on AnswerBag. Check the comments here: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/6174563
  • I've never heard of people being prevented from being health care providers because they are gay . With regard to teachers I am not convinced either that male homosexuals have a higher percentage of child molesters in their population than male or female heterosexuals or that they have the same percentage. The data isn't good. I do accept that Lesbians have a very low rate of child molestation in relation to their percentatage of the population.
  • These stupid people that think that your sexual orientation affects a jobs qualifiquations probably feel so because they think that as a teacher they will be teaching their kids to be gay. Which is stupid, because you can't teach someone to be gay, but I never said they were smart.
