What theories are there in evolution to support the development of the eye? I don't want to argue whether it is right or wrong, but are there any theories? What do you think?

canard. Those trying to find a reason not to accept Darwin's scientifically accepted theory of Evolution (often IDers) resort in desperation to the "development of the eye". Even the Pope says Evolution is more than a theory.

This rather wonderful Flash animation shows how it occurred: http://www.nature.com/nrn/journal/v8/n12/extref/nrn2283-s1.swf Basically, the development of the eye has been effectively traced from flat skin, through stages if increasing sensitivity, forming a cup, and so on. It takes approximately 100,000 steps to get from flat skin to the lensed eye as we know it, and (as required by evolutionary theory) at each step the developing eye become fractionally more effective. All the intermediate steps can be found somewhere in the animal kingdom. The accusation that the eye is irreducibly complex produced a burst of research in which its detailed development was worked out. Scientists are now happy that, barring minor details, we know how the eye developed.
