As I stated before, yes this is true. I'm sorry that I forgot to metion finches, but usually they are too small in an aviary situration with mass amounts of different birds. I worked in a pet store for 6 years and had many questions like this. All the information I have stated before to you is true. If it wasn't then our pet store would have been shut down for cruelty to the animals by placing these birds in this situation. It is not a good idea to put pigeons in with these other types of birds. Pigeons are what we used to refer to as "roof rats". If they think that they are the dominant species in the aviary they can torment and pick to death the other birds. These are opportunistic birds-that are usually housed in outside pen settings. If you have any more questions referring to this subject feel free to email me. My addy is on my profile. Hope this helps and good luck.

The Diamond Dove (Geopelia cuneate) is kept by more aviculturist than any other foreign dove. About sparrow size, but long tailed, this busybody has been bred successfully in captivity for so many generations that today it is completely domesticated. It is a seedeater and a prolific breeder, whether kept separately or with small finches, the Diamond Dove is the favorite of most bird keepers. Currently at least 12 color forms exist hope this is some help

I personally have two diamond doves (a male and female mated pair) who live with about 10 assorted finches -- Societies and Spices and one which is a Spice/Black Hooded nun cross. They all get along just fine!

It is difficult to mix different birds together. While there are some finches that can live together, often you will have to stick to either aggressive types or calmer gentle types and not even mix them together. Ringneck doves are just too sedate and gentle to be with any finches. You might try the small diamond dove which is a bit faster mover and more alert than the ringneck, but be careful you don't add very aggressive finches.

As long as the aviary is large enough and both types of birds are given proper and separate perching and nesting, they should do fine together. While I agree diamond doves would be more suitable for finches, ringnecks of kept in a pair, no more, should do well with their smaller cousins. I recently bought some ringnecks which were housed with both finch and budgies, the aviary was too small, but they lived relatively peacefully. Once again as long as the aviary is large enough to house all the birds and you give them teritorial boundaries, they will do fine. A few plants in various places for screening so the birds can hide or not see each other from time to time would help greatly.

When you get a satisfactory answer to your question, you can have the pigeons that congregate on my patio!!! :)
