Why do so many bicyclists on the roadways risk danger to themselves by not biking in single file?

it called a peloton.i ride alot and i prefer single file for the draft but sometimes we like to talk to one another.

To be sociable to one another. I cycle my MTB with groups between off road sections and avoid two abreast riding. However, our group is sometimes 15 or more and if we were all in one long line it makes it more difficult for cars to pass, as we stretch some distance!
