Usually Medicine does have an effect on your body's physiology.
It's quite interesting though, with pain meds, the psychological component makes it more effective. Our spinal cord releases natural pain killers depending on our mental state, and taking pain meds not only puts more of these in our system, but causes more to be released naturally as well =)
What was interesting was because of this, scientists found that giving someone in pain fake tablets actually caused their pain levels to decease =)
So in most cases probably not, but definitely in some cases =)
