Help answer this question below.
From 1949 (Portsmouth 1-1 Wolves) to 1991 (Arsenal 0-0 Spurs) if the scores were equal after 90 minutes, the Shield was shared. The only exception being in 1974 when Liverpool drew 1-1 to Leeds, then winning 6-5 on penalties. Since the inception of the Premiership in 1992, a draw will go to extra time, then penalties if necessary, with the first example being a 1-1 draw between Man United and Arsenal after 90 mins with United winning 4-2 on penalties in 1993.
Previous to 1949, the only draw to ever be recorded was the very first Charity Shield match in 1908 between Man United and QPR finishing 1-1, resulting in a replay which United won 4-0.
the title has been shared 11 times, whilst funnily enough, there have been 6 draws since 93 with United winning 5 and losing 1.
