Why do you suppose that? I thought it is a "tactic" by the germs to really get around...

Actually if you start to get a runny nose, then you should start taking medicine. In most cases it will help prevent you from getting sick. Medicine usually (depends on the medicine) helps your body fight the infection. or in another way to put it... In some cases, your body doesn't have enough immunities to fight the infection, so it becomes the immunities and fights the infection. It also depends on the type of medicine you take, because certain medicines make things work, and others make things worse.

I don't know about colds, but that is true with stomach bugs. If you can tolerate the diarrhea, its best to let it all out...so to speak. Or so says my doctor!! With colds, I think we should take medicine (zinc) to get over it as quickly as possible and we should try to limit the symtoms to give us comfort and stop the spread to others.

What I usually do is take an expectorant to help make my cough productive during the day, then a suppressant at night so I can sleep. It seems like nothing works for a stuffy or runny nose anyway, so I don't really know what to say about that!
