PhDs - would I be insane to begin a PhD at age fifty? Would I be risking my marriage, sanity etc? Would it be possible to work four days a week while completing it?

Honestly, i know a lady that got her PhD at a nightschool program for adults with kids and a life. You would not be insane, but i hope you have the drive and determination. Good luck :D

I went to law school at the age of 35. I thought I would be the oldest guy there, but I had a classmate who was going to law school at the age of 68. He'd spent his career as a patent examiner, and decided he wanted to become a lawyer specializing in intellectual property issues. He graduated, and the last time I talked to him he was loving life. Never stop dreaming, never stop growing, and never forget you can do anything you set your mind to. Go for it!!!

No you wouldn't be insane..why?..yes it may cause a strain on your homelife and yes it is possible to to work also, have a go why not..good luck :D
