Can your PC see the printer ? when you go to start , printers & faxes is it listed there ? if it is just right click on that icon and do 'set as default printer' that should do if I have understood your question correctly.Or if your PC does not see it when you connect it then start the printer your PC should say that there is a new device connected and you can follow the screen commands which is pretty easy to follow

How is the printer connected? USB into a computer which will share it out OR a network cable? If a network cable, will a print server share it out across the network with drivers for clients OR will each Windows XP workstation connect to it directly via IP address? There are a few ways to share out a printer, just need more info.
