Buy WOW classic, then a time card, that is about the price of any game. If you like it still at level 60, buy burning crusade. There is no way out of the monthly fee. Apparently some people have made private servers, but it gets no blizzard support (patches and content releases) and no players. A empty realm is a boring realm. One you start playing the game, 15 bucks a month is nothing. Its like going to see a movie with popcorn.

You can actually do a search on line for World of Warcraft free servers. The only thing is that you need to find a well populated server in order to set up large raid groups. Just go to Google and search for "top 100 world of warcraft servers". You can also look into how to set up the server in order to get it to work. It's pretty easy. There are also servers out there that offer a ton of set up gold, or maxed charavters to start, etc. Lood for wow-like servers that haven't changed any of the elements to get a true feel of "wow".
