I used to be very much in favor of voting a "straight ticket" no matter what the viewpoints of the people on "my side" of the fence were. Now, I vote a split ticket. There are just too many grey areas, too many moderates, and too many extremists now to conform to party lines. I enjoy the variety of candidates I can choose from - it's one of our rights as Americans, and I think by limiting ourselves to vote within a single party we are taking away from that right. Good question! EDIT, 5 seconds later. Thanks Thedaleys, this answer was my 1000th! I feel happy to have answered such a great question with such a milestone number for me...

I have a few times but now I strictly vote on the issues and the person that i think is best suited to deal with them.
-
I do not vote for personalities I vote issues
-
I vote for the right person, not the party.

Religion and common sence

I do not vote for the person, rather their stands on various issues. However, I usually lean towards voting for one party, and finding the right candidate within that party. If, however someone of the party I prefer were completely in opposition to what I would like to see in office, I would not vote for them. Fortunately, I find that what I believe on most issues is usually what someone from the same party believes anyways.

I don't vote for the party...I vote for the person.
-
I would NEVER vote for someone due to their political party. That's what some people do and they vote in IDIOTS just because they are a Republican or a Democrat! My father did that and it was totally stupid. I vote for who I think is the most qualified and will do the best job. Period. I "split" my ticket and always have since I started voting over 30 years ago.

The issues, not the party, not the person, not religion. I wish we could yank people out of office as easily as they get in, especially when they break campaign promises.
-
Usually but it depends more on policies not parties.
-
I dont have one but i always try to vote...
-
I vote, but I'm non-partisan. Sometimes, if there's someone I actually support running, I'll change my affiliation so I can vote in the primaries, and change back right after.
-
No, if there is a good candidate from another party I will vote for him/her. Particulary if they are an incumbent and have proven themselves to be doing a good job.
-
NOt remotely. I oftenwill vote diffrent parties if a particular person is good for the state or city, etc., that they are repreenting and working for. Nowadays the two parties have such a huge gap between them though, that it is hard to see eye to eye with most of the opposite party members. Partisan politics now is worse than ever, and neither party seems to represent their true base. The Republicans have gotten to moderate, and the Democrats have catered too much to their far left fringe instead of their more moderate base.
-
I don't vote (can't and won't) and I don't plan on belonging to a political party.
-
No, I vote based upon policies and issues. Not that it usually matters what any of the candidates say as they seldom do what they promise..but, what can ya do?
-
No. I vote for the candidate that I think will do the better job.
