  • Very rarely, but I'm from the South and there are a few recipes that I really like where nothing else really works. My cardiologist is not happy about this, but thank goodness for Lipitor. LOL.
  • I always save the fat from when I cook bacon, put it into a mason jar, and then put it in the freezer. It's outstanding for certain things. There is no substitute.
  • Although it's becoming quite difficult to find, I find that only lard works in a few recipes.
  • I often use lard in cooking. I use it in some of my tamales, and in some biscuits or pie dough. It's hard to find the real leaf lard, though. All I find nowadays is the stuff in the box at the market. It's just not the same quality, too soft.
