    "Quahogs Anyone?" - Stuart Hamm

Of course, a REAL guitarist only needs FOUR strings ;)

It has bits from many of his other songs (mostly from his "Kings of Sleep" album) and a rendition of "Linus and Lucy" from Peanuts for those fond of two-handed tapping.
Give it a listen. You won't regret it.

Gosh, there are so many. Quite a few of Frank Zappa's; maybe the one on the live version of Stevie's Spanking would be the best.

I also like bands who mocked the very idea of a guitar solo; the Buzzcocks' song What Do I Get has a marvellously ironic plodding solo that is a joy to behold.

Good question; bet it's a duplicate though.

I would say it is in "Angel of Death" by Slayer, not sure which of the guitarists actually played it though. I'm also very partial to the last couple of minutes of "Alive" by Pearl Jam...

I'll never forget- I was a little girl [WAY young], and Mason Williams was on the Ed Sullivan Show. Classical Gas. Played awhile, then an ENTIRE ORCHESTRA burst into it, then he ended it quietly again. FAVORITE!

Dragonforce holds the torch for the best solos, and duels, Its hard to pick just one song, but the whole album Inhuman Rampage is rad to the bone, and if i were to pick a single song it'd be Through The Fire And Flames.

I personally like the one in Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits, towards the end.

Either that or Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns'n'Roses.

EDIT - just founds this link which is a readers poll of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos by readers of Guitar World, the number one being Stairway to Heaven - Led Zep. I can't hear this one in my head, don't remember how it goes.

  • I thought I answered this Q already but I guess not.

I have a bunch of favs, but two come to mind right now
Dimebag Darrell's solo in Pantera's "The Sleep"
    (solo starts around 3:00)

and Alex Skolnick's solo in Testament's "The Legacy"
(solo starts around 2:36, really gets intense about 3:03)
    .
