What things did you think were "common sense" that turned out to be untrue or unfounded?

For the longest time I thought if I swallowed chewing gum, it would get stuck in my appendix, since it was an old wives tale that seemed to make sense since you can't digest it. It actually wasn't until a few years ago that I found out that wasn't true.... I felt kinda silly after that. :)

I thought that once I got married I'd have 'relations' more often than when I was single since, well, you're both there right...It's just common sense. Turns out ... not so much. :(
