  • From ... http://www.intowine.com/cellar.html Wines kept at too high a temperature will age faster than wines kept at a cold temperature. Theoretically, wines kept at 68°F will age twice as fast as those kept at 50°F. At 55°F (12°C) wines will age so slowly – with ultimately greater complexity – that you will never have to worry about them. This is not to say the colder the better. Wine that is stored too cold can develop deposits or other suspensions in the wine. Finally, keep in mind that white wines are affected far more by temperature problems than red wines.
  • Research: http://www.google.com/search?q=*+temperature+for+storing+red+wine Here are some results: # The ideal temperature for storing red wine is between 50° and 55° Fahrenheit, but anywhere up to 65° is okay. # Best temperature for storing red wine is 13 Celsius (55 Fahrenheit). # The place's raison d'être, though, is wine storage; 57 Degrees refers to the ideal temperature for storing red wine. # Red Wine temperature range 50F - 64.4F etc.
  • Both of the other answers are correct, but keep in mind that even more important is that the temperature remains constant. Fluctuation in temperature can cause the wines to "breathe" through the cork/seal. This can introduce contaminants into the wine, causing premature aging or spoilage.
