Just like with Adobe products.. They are hard/impossible to use for a newbie - this is the way the company makes the program to look professional! And people still use it. Well, only those who have waisted half of their life on learning the complexity of the product.

Which Oracle product did you try specifically? Where exactly did you find it to be "temperamental"?

You have stumbled upon one of the dirty little secrets of the IT world. There are simple off-the-shelf inexpensive (often free) solutions to the vast majority of user software needs in the IT world. However, if those simple solutions were used, then the IT department wouldn't need so many technicians. The training department wouldn't need to teach as many classes. The procurement department wouldn't need an expensive budget dedicated to software purchasing and upgrades. All of these factors would make the 'empires' of those department managers much smaller....and NONE of them want that to happen. So companies continue to purchase overkill bloatware (like Oracle) to solve problems that could probably be managed by a free download of a Linux-based small and tidy database program. You have my sympathy. . . .
