  • febreeze, although it is a spray it works really well and you can smell it and i think its worth my money to be buying.
  • How about a plug-in air filter with built in ionizer. The ionizer kills (not just masks odors). Once you' ve cleaned and filtered your air, you can add fragrance. A nice way to do it is to use a candle-lit essential oil warmer. This is a little pottery or glass contraption that holds a votive candle below, with a space on top to pour a small amount of water into which you add a few drops of essential oils. The gentle warmth of the candle makes the scent diffuse into the air. Very nice!!!
  • Method make the best. They have a plug-in made with real plant oils and they all smell divine. You can buy Method products at Target or order online at http://www.methodhome.com I really love all of their cleaning products too.
  • An ionizer or ozone generator. I've built many, and once they are properly tuned, it can make the dankest basement smell like a June evening in the Sonora. The key is corona effect for ozone (keeping the distance between the HV output and ground just so that you can see a purple glow in the dark), and needlepoint emanation for negative ions. Negative ions and ozone both pull dust and dander particles down to the floor by anionizing them and making them heavier than air. I have a 7.5KV neon sign transformer connected to a 24" x 12" lexan sheet that I coated with hot-glued copper sheeting. It can go in the dishwasher when it's dirty, and if you blow a puff of cigarette smoke at it, it disappears. Two-three minutes of operation will make a room smell like a rainstorm just passed through. Of course, this is dangerous so do not attempt to make your own unless you understand electronics. Buy an ionizer.
  • I don't care for Candles because of the black smoke, and agree with plug -in don't last long enough, you can go broke. My favorite two are Liquid Poupperi< sp bad! simmer in a electric warmer The Candles that are made for simmering in electric warmers Both Reasonable Price and Both will Make your Home Smell Good! No Mess!
  • I use Bath and Body Works Wallflowers - they've got oil in them and last about two months. As for sprays, I use Natural Orange, can be found in the cleaning/deodorizor area of Walmart. And I LOVE Yankee candle tarts in a tart burner. Or, if you don't like the black smoke from regular candles, you could try burning soy candles. They burn clean. (Yes, I know that this covers everything, even what the OP didn't ask for, but I'm covering all my bases for those reading.)
  • Lavender works wonders and lasts awhile also if you grow some in your yard its FREE!!
  • Yankee Candle Plug ins
  • Cheap and all natural, simmer cinnamon in water on the stove. You could use vanilla or clove or whatever you like. It makes the whole house smell wonderful.
  • Lavender incense cones, tidy, neat, easily disposed of. Simmer a panful of water, lemon peels, orange peels, cinnamon stick, cloves. Sprays=bad toxic chemical warfare in a can.
  • I get those fabreeze plug in ones also the glad plug ins with the lil fan. If you want to quickly add freshness this time of the year if you live in a colder climate try getting those lil air freshner gels & place them on your air vents. When the heat kicks on makes the whole room smell nice & pretty.
  • I like a lampberger. They burn an oil and will scent your house for hours. You do have to light them but the flame is blown out after a minute or two. The oil comes in hundreds of scents.
  • I know you said the incense you tried was messy, but the particular kind I use is very clean. You can buy it in small bottles, that come with little incense plates (called a burn plate) attached to the bottle. The incense is in the shape of a small cone (smaller than my pinkie). You light the tip of the cone and let it sit until the flame goes out. The cone will smoke for about an hour, and it stays intact. Not a bit falls off. Very clean, and easy to handle. The brand is called "Elegant Expressions," (which is only visible on the barcode on the bottom of the bottle) and I found it at my local Wal-Mart in the isle where the candles were located. There are also devices you can use to melt a candle. The candle gives off the smell, but there is no flame and smoke. You can also buy these candle melters in the same isle I found the incense in. You can use any candle that comes in a glass container. Just plug in the candle melter and set the candle on it.
  • I know you said not spray but this kinda ain't a official spray but a cheap way, my step daughter discovered buy the downy with fabreeze fabric softner(pref. the green lid scent) take a spray bottle & a cap & 1/2 full of the liq. put it in the bottle & hot water & mix it. It makes a wonderful air freshner if u need a quick odor remover. I guess you could use any liquid fabric that is concentrated that you like & do the same with also.
  • I use the plug ins from White Candle Barn. They smell good and last a long time. And I can smell mine before I open the door.
  • Haze / Glade spray seems to wrk pretty well for me. The smell is long lasting and you can buy these in big bottles so you aren't constantly paying out for it. The best fragrance of this I'd say is the Orange bottle - Peach & Jasmine
  • Febreze works good and then there was the new glade Airfusion in Ocean Spray that kept my bathroom smell wonderful for a long time and covered the cat poop smell nicely.
  • Ambi Pur threevolution plug ins are fantastic, they come in a whole range of smells and last for ages. I have one in my lounge/dining room which is a large room and i can still smell the aroma after about 3 weeks. Ive tried every other air freshener/plug in and this is the best so far.
  • The "new" Reed Diffusers are great! They are a steady emitter of fragrance and not too strong but strong enough to scent a pretty large area. http://www.pier1.com/TopMenu/ExploreMerch/FeaturedProducts/FragrantGifts/tabid/229/Default.aspx The Lime/Cilantro is my favorite.
  • I got a good thing at WalMart earlier this year. It has since run out. It was a bunch of little scented gel beads in a plastic container. It wasn't overbearing, but seemed to put out scent when necessary (I had it in the bathroom). I have the oil things that plug in, and I can smell them all right (in a small apartment). Bath and Body Works' wallflowers are good, too.
  • I think Febreeze works pretty good, or Oust!
  • Keep the lid off of a jar containing ammonia crystals for a while. This neutralizes cooking odors such as frying fish or boiling cabbage.
  • Oust isn't bad. fabreeze is good for fabric only. I like the scented oil stuff either candles (short term) or the plug ins for more long term
  • I take a squirt bottle and fill it with an ounce or two of fabric softner ( Downy) and fill it with water and go around the house spritzing everything from curtains to cushions, shower curtains and throw rugs. Love the smell!!
  • I think the best type freshner is liquid/and bagged potpourri the pineapple/sage scent.but really the best way to keep your house fresh smelling is to keep walls clean with something like spic and span, keep trash outside, also if you have vents in the floor you can put dryer sheets, potpourri in the vent )in the winter time).
  • my idea of out door scent right in our home is acorns mix along with whole cloves. Cinnamon added at christmas time is fun also
  • Hi I would try: http://www.scentsplus.com/ "Commercial Grade Deodorizer Units and Fragrances for Homes and Businesses. Guaranteed to make your home or business smell wonderful twenty-four hours a day, and if that's not enough, all units have a lifetime guarantee." I have one of those and it is the beeest! After going through countless Glade plug-ins and sprays I finally found what I was looking for. And they have a wide selection of available scents like Cherry, Mulberry, Cinnamon, Apple Jack, Vanilla Mist, Grape and Pina Colada. You should check it out. It's really amazing, I come home from work, open the door and the smell hits me. Sooo good :)
  • You have to read the testimonials at this website. This is the absolute best in air freshening. http://www.redolere.com/why_sophias_redolere_10xcandle_better_than_candles.htm
  • i love incense! well i like the white tea & lily spray from glade. but it doesnt last that long. and ppl huff it. ahaha:)
  • Seriously.... Gold Canyon candles are the best. I have never smelled a candle so strong, my mom even says she can smell the candles on my kids when they go over to her house. Check out my website: Mygc.com/alesiagonzales
