Just make sure whatever is in your stomach is substantial. I usually eat eggs or anything with protein wait a half hour, work out, then replenish my body with calories. I'm trying to gain muscle mass.

eat protein afterwards. beforehand you want to eat at least one dairy product (lactose which gives your muscles something to use when your body doesn't have enough oxygen) and cereals, ie cereal bars etc, some carbs if you can but not necessary at this moment. I always have cereals, banana's and two yoghurts 1 hour before I go. Also, be sure to drink a lot of water throughout your workout.

I have a pre workout shake about an hour to an hour and half before my workout. it will consist of 1 cup of dry oats, half a cup of fruit juice, and two scoops for 50 grams of whey protein.
