My son-in-law brews his own and it is delicious according to the beer connoisseurs in the family. There are lots of websites, but he got recipes from the store that sells all the equipment in Washington State. You'll have to consider it a hobby that you want to put some money into for the things you will need. There are websites for all the products too. Have fun!

Here is my advise. You can buy books on how to brew, BUT, unless you want a hell of a lot of reading, I would recommend finding a homebrew store and getting one of their cheap kits. Fermenter, hydrometer, capper, and a bunch of other things that should be included. A kit can run anywhere from $75 to $100. Most places have a flyer that gives a run down of the brewing process. They are usually very cut and dry, only enough details to get you going. My first kit had a 2 page instruction booklet. Next I would recommend starting with a brew kit, which typically costs around $25 for everything. You will also need a 4-5 gallon steel or aluminum pot, and enough bottles for a 5 gallon batch. Time to brew with a kit is about 2-3 hours, fermenting is about 2 weeks, bottling and carbonation is about another 2 weeks. All of these are average prices and times. As for your other question, I have brewed over 300 gallons since 2005. Most of mine have turned out very good, with only a few bad or drinkable batches. I switched to all grain brewing in late 2005.
